Celebrating William Ruch: A Valued Project Manager’s Next Chapter

Dear Supporters and Friends of HEAL,

It is with deep appreciation and a sense of loss that we announce the departure of William Ruch, our beloved Project Manager, from HEAL’s Iraq Field Office in Erbil. As William and his family transition to the United States to pursue further training, education, and equipping, we reflect on his contributions, which have advanced our mission to restore dignity, hope, and health.

Over the past two years, William has embodied our values of partnership, humility, and hospitality. Early in his tenure, he launched an ambitious early-morning fitness program that, despite initial cultural skepticism, flourished under his leadership. Leading six to ten men—many of whom were internally displaced persons or refugees—in daily, early morning, exercise sessions that emphasized leadership and commitment. This initiative brought together a diverse group of individuals who might not otherwise connect, fostering community bonds and promoting health.

William’s pursuit of excellence extended beyond Northern Iraq. In November 2024, he completed Wilderness Outdoor First Responder (WOFR) training in Switzerland, enhancing his skills for humanitarian work in the region. Toward the end of his tenure, he diligently explored agricultural initiatives, laying groundwork for future sustainability efforts through his project management.

William’s humility was evident in his readiness to undertake challenging tasks and in his and his wife Elizabeth’s dedication to learning Arabic over the past two years. Their commitment to mastering the language exemplified a humble willingness to listen and connect deeply with those in Northern Iraq, fostering mutual understanding. Off the clock, William and Elizabeth regularly hosted locals in their home, building rapport and gaining insight into the culture they embraced. Their revolving door, opened through a beautiful culture of care and love, became a hallmark of their hospitality.

Together with Elizabeth, William has been a culture setter and maker, fostering a vibrant team environment. Their gracious hospitality welcomed us into their home, creating a sense of unity that strengthened our shared purpose. As a devoted husband and father to a young son, with another child on the way, William’s efforts to build a strong organizational culture have left an enduring mark.

As William embarks on this new chapter of professional growth in the United States, we express our deepest gratitude for his service. His contributions have strengthened our community in Northern Iraq, embodying our vision of restoring hope and health. William, thank you for your exemplary dedication. You will always remain a cherished member of the HEAL community.
